Volkswagen's
increases in production capacity in Slovakia and Czech Republic
for Polo / Skoda and Colorado 4x4 production will see the company
overtake the Avtovaz Lada brand by 2002
In 2001, Five
manufacturers dominate the market: Volkswagen, Fiat, Renault and
GM, Avtovaz (Lada)
Asian and
South East Asian manufacturers have seen their fortunes rise and
wane. The collapse of Daewoo will have a significant market impact,
given the long period of uncertainty surrounding 'new ownership'
of the company. Daewoo's rebirth is dependent upon S. Korean government
stance re: debt transfer to new owner of the company.
The passenger
car market in central and eastern Europe is forecast to increase
steadily between 2001-2005, to reach 2.88m units by 2005.
