Import climate:

The import climate for American medical equipment in Romania is positive. There are no import barriers for U.S. equipment. The Ministry of Health is preparing plans to acquire new medical equipment in order to replace the existing used equipment and modernize the hospital system. The Ministry has organized the Committee of Technical and Medical Equipment whose role is to evaluate equipment tenders to assure that the hospitals purchase the best equipment. The General Board of the Medical Assistance and the Board of the Medical Equipment have established together the equipment types which are to be purchased and have established tender procedures for centralized procurement for the health care system.

Distribution/Business/ Practices

Sales are mainly by state tender or direct purchase. The distributing company must have good quality contacts in Romania, in order to have access to appropriate authorities with decision-making power in purchasing. Suppliers contact hospitals directly.

Financing:

The most common financing method used is payment by bank transfer
with terms of 60 days after the supplier invoices the purchaser.
